White Gold Rings For Men
Until a few decades ago, men's gold rings almost always implied yellow gold and white gold was considered 'unsuitable' for men's rings. When Kaisilver conducted an in-depth study into the low demand for white gold men's rings, some interesting findings were uncovered. White color has always been associated with things, pure, innocent and delicate - men considered white gold to be a gold option that was more suited for women's jewelry. To put it simply, it was presumed that a men's white gold ring would not appear masculine! While sterling silver was very popular among men, white gold was something to be avoided. With color being a personal preference we turned to other reasons for which men kept away from white gold. There was a belief that, white gold was not hard and tough as yellow gold - this could be classified as a 'misunderstanding' that needed some clarification.
Pure gold is too soft to be crafted into durable jewelry and this, gave rise to gold of different 'karatages'. You might have heard of 10k, 14k and 18k gold - some Asian countries prefer 22k gold. Each of these gold karatages describes an alloy of gold. So 10k gold is an alloy that is composed of around 42% pure gold the remaining 58% is a combination of other metals. Similarly 14k gold consists of 58% pure gold and the remaining 42% includes other metals. And in the case of 18k gold, you have 75% pure gold with other metals making up the remaining 25%. Karat gold as it is referred to, is used for it's hardness something that, is derived by the 'other' metals that combine with gold. The lower a karatage number, the harder the gold alloy. When it comes to fine jewelry, it is agreed that 14k gold provides the right combination of pure gold value and metal hardness.
Commercially gold jewelry is available in 3 colors namely, white, yellow and pink (or rose) and all these gold colors are alloyed into 10k, 14k and 18k gold. What needs to be stressed is that, the gold hardness is dependent on gold karatage and NOT on the color of the gold. So if you made a men's white gold ring with 14k yellow gold and replicated the same ring (same in dimensions, design and gold weight) in 14k white gold or 14k rose gold, the hardness of the metal would remain the same. So if you are avoiding white gold male rings just because you feel that, they are not tough and sturdy - lay your worries to rest.
So should the gemstone color you choose be dependent on the gold color for your ring. This is an interesting issue and needs to be clearly explained. The metal color in a yellow gold ring is a bit warmer and subdued as compared to a white gold ring. When you are talking about a male white gold ring, you refer too a metal color that is very light and bright - nothing whiter than this for sure. The color contrast of the gem and metal in a men's white gold gemstone ring, can be very stark and this can sometimes mark a dark saturated gem appear even darker. For example, a men's blue sapphire ring might appear to have a very dark stone, if the gem has a fairly dark blue shade and is set in a white gold ring. Gems that can create this illusion could include, blue sapphire, green tourmaline, iolite and smoky quartz. When it comes to gemstones with a pale color shade, white gold can actually add life and vigor to them. A good example would be aquamarine, pale blue (sky blue) topaz or even pale pink morganite. If you decide to buy a men's aquamarine ring chances are that, the gem would have a fairly light blue color. Darker shades of aquamarine often referred to as Santa Maria aquamarine generally carry a premium price tag - at Kaisilver we custom cut aquamarine in all shades and therefore allow you to make the choice. A white gold men's ring with a pale blue aquamarine gem is more likely to bring out the blue shade of the gem as compared, to a yellow or pink gold ring. Since there are a large number of gemstones that can be used to make your men's ring, we strongly encourage you to discuss details with our support team.
Let's now tackle the worry that buyers have about, white gold men's rings not appearing masculine! Putting our 3 decade experience behind our recommendation, here is some sincere advice. There are certainly some factors in a men's ring that would decide just how masculine or feminine it appears - fortunately, gold color is not one of these factors. The design concept and dimensions for a jewel, probably the gem color and the ring (finger) size are important factors. If you choose a dainty and intricate design for your men's ring, it might appear a bit gentle and fancy. Similarly a narrow band width or metal segments can add a feminine touch to any ring. Gem color is a debatable issue, some might consider red, pink and lighter greens to be ideally suited for ladies but, reality differs. Red garnet and the exotic ruby have found favor with many men. Pink might be a bit low on the list for men's gemstone rings but, kunzite seems to be an exception. We have crafted some fine men's peridot rings and widely used emeralds in men's jewelry - so green does seem to be a good choice. Here are the gems that appear most often in men's rings - london blue topaz, citrine, blue sapphire, deep red garnet, black onyx, blue lapis, amethyst and ruby. A ring worn on a small finger size might not appear very masculine but, it would be wrong to blame the ring - we would suggest that you proudly wear that ring without blaming it or the finger. Yes many of you guys might not feel comfortable in a rose gold ring but, a white gold men's ring should definitely be fine.
And even after all the explanations and clarifications provided in this report, some men might prefer nothing else but, yellow gold - so it all boils down to personal likes and dislikes. All that we wish to say is that, not wearing a mens white gold ring just because of a wrong idea or understanding, should be cleared after you have read this report.
